about
Visceral - Surreal - provocative
What Lurks on the Edge is a visceral and visually arresting contemporary work that brings together dance, light, sleight of hand and black-art illusion to create a surreal theatrical world.
Inspired by the 17th-century tale of Bluebeard—a story of a forbidden chamber and a man whose wealth and status conceals violence—the work reimagines the familiar tale through the experiences of the women who have been consumed by it. Performed by four women, it explores the ways coercive power can reproduce itself, and how patterns of harm can persist through those who have experienced them.
At the heart of the work is a world in which nothing is quite what it seems. Bodies emerge from darkness, disappear, fracture and transform through an intricate interplay of movement and light. Rather than simply illuminating the performance, light becomes a fundamental part of the choreography—creating the images, illusions and shifting realities through which the story unfolds.
Through raw physicality, theatrical illusion and an increasingly uncanny visual landscape, What Lurks on the Edge moves between the seductive and the unsettling. The familiar world of Bluebeard becomes something stranger: a place where beauty conceals danger, identities shift, and the boundaries between victim, perpetrator and survivor begin to blur.
Bold, immersive and evocative, What Lurks on the Edge is Limosani at her most daring—a collision of contemporary dance, illusion and light that invites audiences into a world that is seductive, disturbing and impossible to look away from.
